Texas Holdem Tactics – Best Starting Hands

by Carlos on February 14th, 2013

One of the largest issues that I encountered when I very first got into Hold em was figuring out what cards to play in what Position. Often I would get burned on a hand that I thought was a good starting hand. Come to find out they were excellent hands, just not in the location I was betting them from. Here can be a pretty basic list of what type of hands to wager on and what placement it’s suitable to bet on them in. Bear in mind this chart doesn’t factor in raises or suits.

Wager on From Any Position

AA KK QQ JJ Ten, Ten Nine, Nine Eight, Eight AK Ace, Queen Ace, Jack Ace, Ten King, Queen KJ

Bet on Mid to Late Position

Six, Six 55 KT QJ Queen, Ten Jack Ten

Play in Late Position Only

A9 Ace, Eight A7 K9 K8 Queen, Nine Jack, Nine Jack, Eight T9 T8 Nine, Eight Nine, Seven

If you’re just beginning to bet on poker, wagering these hands at the suggested positions will help you always be in a safe placement prior to the flop. As your game progresses, you’ll be able to add a lot more hands to this list and know how to wager on them in specific situations. If you’re just starting to bet on cards, I would recommend playing for nickels and dimes at residence or for free at a web based poker website. Poker websites are nice because you have to see several additional hands per hour than you do at household. Several goods sites to wager on for free of charge are UltimateBet and PartyPoker.com.
