Internet High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen

by Carlos on November 18th, 2016

Gus Hansen experienced an amazing year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the final poker table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker recorded history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many televised poker appearances and is thought to be one of the strongest gamblers around the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. He often participates in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of Forty Thousand dollars. Gus usually buys-in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits for a good hand and then pushes all in. I accept that Gus is an outstanding poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless he is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can alter our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world may be guys you have never heard about. Gus can be found participating in internet poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in high stakes omaha high and texas hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his abilities in cash games?
