Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is frequently seen as one of the most complex but favored poker games. It’s a variation that, even more than normal Omaha poker, invites play from every level of players. This is the chief reason why a once obscure game, has expanded in popularity so rapidly.

Omaha hi low begins exactly like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are given out to every player. A sequence of wagering follows in which players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is called the flop. Another round of wagering happens. After all the players have either called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The gamblers will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is the point where some entrants often get confused. Unlike Hold’em, where the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/lo the player has to utilize precisely three cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to normal Omaha, there are 2 ways a pot may be won: the "higher hand" or the "low hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It’s the strongest possible hand out of every player’s, regardless if it is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical concept in just about all poker games.

A low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the play. When determining a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that could be put together, with the worst being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as does the higher hand. When there is no lower hand available, the high hand takes the complete pot.
