NL Texas Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

by Carlos on January 27th, 2019

Phil Ivey has been branded as the greatest poker player on the globe by many of the top professionals. Phil was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning 1. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was hooked on poker and wished to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not let the detrimental comments from other people kill his goal of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

He began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for Phil were a learning opportunity and coming away with a win wasn’t a common outcome at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he achieved 2 final tables and won his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he’s learning every day and is very humble about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders in each game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes winning cash games on a regular basis.
