Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha 8 or better) is frequently viewed as one of the most difficult but favored poker games. It is a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, invites action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible variation, has increased in acceptance so rapidly.

Omaha 8 or better begins just like a normal game of Omaha. Four cards are dealt to every player. A round of wagering follows in which gamblers can bet, check, or fold. Three cards are dealt out, this is called the flop. A further sequence of wagering ensues. Once all the players have in turn called or dropped out, a further card is revealed on the turn. a further round of wagering follows and then the river card is revealed. The entrants will need to put together the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.

This is where many entrants can get flustered. Contrasted to Texas Holdem, where the board can make up everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player must utilize exactly three cards on the board, and precisely two cards from their hand. No more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot could be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."

A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the best hand out of every player’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the same notion in almost every poker game.

The low hand is more complex, but certainly opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes do not count. A low hand is the weakest hand that could be made, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and below. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no low hand available, the higher hand takes the complete pot.

It may seem complicated at the outset, following a few hands you will be able to get the base subtleties of the game simply enough. Since you have people wagering for the low and betting for the high, and since so many cards are being used at once, Omaha Hi-Lo provides an amazing range of betting possibilities and seeing that you have many individuals battling for the high hand, along with a few shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to participate in Omaha Hi-Lo.
