Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker player on the globe by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught him one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to learn everything he possibly could about poker. Phil would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative feedback from others destroy his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He began competing seriously after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a learning experience and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the well known pros including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to discipline and a continuing love for the game of poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. He admits to making blunders every single game of poker and always strives to get better.

Even though Ivey has won some big-time tournaments, he prefers destroying cash games on a regular basis.
