Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he loved taking part in different card games at a young age. He discovered himself getting very competitive in these particular card games as he was playing his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and moved away to New York to play some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was introduced to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play countless hours and don’t win a majority of the time. He earned some extra cash by being an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he could boost his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an attempt to get more rest and concentrate more on the game.
The real advancement in his game happened when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would regularly wager against each other. He was able to access a number of the best minds in chess. With their assistance, Howard would tweak his cunning thinking abilities. Howard used these strategic concepts in the game of NL hold’em.
He also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was a great student of the game as she constantly asked questions about the right way to make the proper decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. Howard Lederer relocated to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the next 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to play more tournaments.
