NL Hold’em Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been labeled as the best poker competitor on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandfather taught Phil one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he could about poker. Phil routinely told his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the adverse comments from other people kill his goal of becoming one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after getting a fake ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his abilities at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning number of years for him were a teaching experience and winning was not a normal thing at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved two final tables and won his 1st World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the final table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Sin City. He continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to dedication and an eternal love for the game of poker. He says that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his success. Phil knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and constantly strives to get better.

Although Ivey has won some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a normal basis.
