Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

by Carlos on February 10th, 2021

Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the last table in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might recall one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a big pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Gus has earned many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys-in for the min of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a decent hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is bankrupt, he has no reason to sit at the table with the min buy-in.

Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Hansen is supposed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he can’t buy in for the total dollar value. I believe television can alter our perception of the real world at times. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be seen participating in online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas holdem. Gus has shown himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
