Net Big Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
by Carlos on March 18th, 2022
Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only participant to make it to the closing game in 3 of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Hansen secured a huge pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has earned many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the greatest bettors anywhere in the world. While playing net poker, a different side of Hansen has been seen. Gus frequently plays in the 200/400 No Limit max buy in of $40, 000. Hansen generally buys in for the min of $16, 000 and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then pushes all-in. I accept that Hansen is an excellent poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is flat broke, he has no reason to settle at the game with the minimum buy-in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of big stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full dollar value. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world might be players you have will not have heard about. Gus can be seen gambling on online poker on Full Tilt. He commonly plays in big stakes Omaha and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
