NL Texas Holdem Poker- Who is Phil Ivey?

Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker player on the planet by quite a few of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His grandpa taught Phil penny-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From then on on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn whatever he could about poker. He would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative comments from others destroy his dream of being one of the best poker players on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a normal outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and won his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the last table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Phil credits his success to hard work and an undying passion for poker. He says that he is picking up skills every day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. Phil knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Although Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he prefers winning cash games on a regular basis.
