Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender in the world by many of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to learn anything he could about the game. He routinely would tell his elders that he wanted to be a professional poker player. Phil didn’t let the negative feedback from other people annihilate his dream of becoming one of the greatest poker players in the world.

Phil started playing intently after getting a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He honed his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and winning wasn’t a common outcome at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha event. At the closing table he destroyed many of the well known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his success to discipline and an undying passion for poker. Phil says that he’s learning every single day and is quite humble about his success. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and always strives to get better.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
