Phil Ivey has been branded as the best poker competitor on the globe by many of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before his first birthday. His papa taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup whatever he possibly could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not permit the negative comments from others annihilate his ambition of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors in the world.

He began competing intently after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his techniques at the casinos of Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching period and winning was not a regular outcome at the time. Phil made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the last table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players on the planet. Ivey credits his success to hard work and an undying love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite humble about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.

Even though Ivey has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying money games on a normal basis.
