Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 where he liked gambling on various card games when he was young. He discovered himself becoming really aggressive in the above-mentioned card games while playing his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put higher education on hold for a bit and relocated to New York to compete in some serious chess. While participating in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the back of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were rough as he would play many hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an runner for the poker players. He judged he could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He brought about an effort to get more sleep and focus even more on the game.
The real improvement in his abilities happened when he began playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would often play against each other. Howard was able to access some of the greatest minds in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his cunning thinking abilities. He applied these strategy ideas to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.
He also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. She was a superb student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about the right way to make the proper decision. He told Annie to move out to Las Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest women players the poker world has ever seen. He headed to Sin City in Nineteen Ninety Three and played cash games for the successive 10 years. When the WPT grew in popularity, Howard decided to play more tournaments.
