by Carlos on November 7th, 2025
Phil Ivey has been labeled as the greatest poker player on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and relocated to Jersey before reaching turning 1. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was hooked on poker and wanted to learn whatever he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from others annihilate his ambition of being one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil began competing seriously after acquiring a false ID by the name of Jerome. He sharpened his abilities at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first number of years for him were a teaching opportunity and winning wasn’t a normal thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 WSOP where he achieved 2 final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed many of the better known professionals including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and headed out west to Vegas. He continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to discipline and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he’s picking up skills every day and is quite abashed about his accomplishments. Phil knows he makes errors every single session of poker and constantly aspires to get better.
Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
