Web High Stakes Poker- Gus Hansen
by Carlos on April 5th, 2026
Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only gambler to make it to the last game in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a huge pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is thought to be one of the best enthusiasts anywhere in the world. While participating in web poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus regularly plays in the 200/400 No Limit maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all in. I believe Hansen is a great poker player but not even close to the familiar players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.
Buying in for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be one of the best players anywhere in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can alter our view of the real world every now and then. The best players anywhere in the world might be players you have never heard of before. Gus can be found gambling on internet poker on Full Tilt. He normally participates in big stakes omaha hold’em and texas hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in money rounds?
